Cupcakes for a change, these little ones are from Jones Cupcake. Not too crazy about cupcakes, but wanted to give it a try. These are good (double chocolate, red velvet, pumpkin, carrot, chocolate mint, peanut butter), but still too sweet for me. My favorite was the peanut and the cake of all them was really good, moist and fluffy.

Today at Japanese place Kalé, they only serve curry - always a big fan of single themed restaurants, they focus and the dish is usually exceptional.
As the owner Makoto described it nicely to another customer (not me, I know my stuff ;-)): Japanese curry is an interpretation of English curry which is an interpretation of Indian curry! Here you go!
Rice was excellent and the curry sauce was also very good, not too spicey, just so used to have tons of vegetables and potatoes in my curry, was really missing more ingredients besides the chicken.
Still it’s a very nice authentic place with a friendly owner.

German chocolate cake from the cafeteria. Asked what makes it German: ‘the coconut layer on top’
Hmmm, interesting take on Germany…!

Back at Lardo and having their Dirty Fries, most amazing thing ever. Could eat this everyday: french fries, fried bacon, pickeled pepper, fried herbs and parmigiano.
First of all the quality of the ingredients is outstanding and the fries are probably fried in bacon fat…
All the different flavors fit perfectly and the acid from the pickeled peppers adds a nice balance to the fatty bacon.
Will continue to enjoy my heavenly fries and work out hard later, very hard!

Japanese Garden in Portland, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Everything is done with a purpose and there are also free guided tours to get more information. One part of the park is more natural - in a sense, that only when things get too ‘messy’, it will be changed.
There was also a Noguchi exhibition, my favorite sculptor - beautiful selection, some inside and some outside including an incredible view of Mount Hood.

Will never ever leave Portland again, this is one of the best sushi I’ve ever had outside of Japan. The place is called Masu and as I have no idea how to include a link on the tumblr app, just google it.
The maki above are called Japanista: spicy crab, spicy tuna and kawaire with seared hamachi,
cilantro and red jalapeno on top served with our hana and sweet chili sauce - amazing, the flavors explode in your mouth. Tried it first without the jalapeño and cilantro to get a clearer taste. The Hamachi just melted perfectly, didn’t taste too much of the tuna but it added a fatty flavor to it (in a very good way).
Was a bit disappointed by the Ebi as they tasted rather bland, so had to add some Wasabi - which had a nice flavor, just the right amount of spiciness.
The two mackerel were absolutely amazing, fresh and oh have to add: the rice was perfect: not too sticky and just the right temperature. People tend to focus too much on the fish, the rice is equally if not more important!!!
Ordered also the marinated mackerel, remembered what the chef from the Sushi Bar in Munich said: ‘I’ll always try the marinated things at other sushi places, this is how you find out if the place is good or not’ and man was it good. It had an excellent sour taste to it which I love so much.
